Hey guys i m looking to upgrade my p90 pups and was wondering what you guys like better the alnico 2 or 5.
The reason ceramic has a bad rap is probably due to its use.
I have not knowingly installed an artec but i ve installed a ka 30 in a 160e clone acoustic like it a lot their mini hums are a bargain too.
You see ceramic is easier to come by than alnico making it a cheaper magnet to make.
Whereas ceramic is used in metal as it sounds tight loud and cool.
The old korean epi p90s are ceramic and don t sound as good imo mags are easily changed though.

You often hear that the sound of a pickup is dominated by the choice of magnet used in its construction.
A lot of people automatically say that alnico is superior to ceramic in pickups.
Some folks might liken the difference between alnico and ceramic speakers to the difference between tube and solid state amplifiers where one compresses smoothly and the other gives all it has and then clips hard.
I ve run through a half dozen p90 makers for various guitars.
So we often hear.
Alnico is nice and warm and great for blues.
Im looking at two pups and the only difference is the mags.
However there are fantastic sounding ceramic pickups out there such as the g l mfd pickups as well as our own humbuckers and p90 s.
You have a 15 it should have nice hot wound alnico 5 p90 s so enjoy.
I ve heard 2 s are spongy warm soft and 5s are tighter brighter snappy.
By some players the ceramic magnets are given a bad reputation when compared to alnico which is probably due to their association with cheaper instruments.
Alnico tends to produce a very musical pickup in most setups.
